Big Boy Room
When my family and I moved from our city condo to our current house in the Chicago suburbs, I knew my son who was 4 at the time would be ready to graduate from his baby/toddler room to a “big boy” room. Any other parents/guardians out there get emotional from these milestones?
We knew our condo in the city was a temporary home, so we didn’t change a ton when we lived there. Plus it already had so much character from the detailed, elaborate millwork throughout. One of the things we didn’t update was my son’s room were the gray walls, so the room ended up being very neutral - lots of grays, whites, with light green accents.
So when I was deciding on a color palette for the new room, I knew I wanted to go bold and bring in more color. My son’s favorite color is - not shockingly - blue. It was important to me to make him part of the process, so he helped me decide on a theme and a wall color - we went with a vintage camp/school theme with navy blue walls.
Here’s The Reveal!
A few of my favorite things:
A mix of vintage and modern, including croquet and tennis racquet antiques from one of my favorite shops in Union Pier Michigan, The Plum Tree. I featured these pieces in the gallery wall above the bed.
Little Seeds Monarch White Metal bedframe from Amazon
Personal touches: Missouri postcard, monogram pennant signs and this G one from Etsy
A trunk that doubles as a bench and storage
United States Map from Crate & Kids
I’m continuing to collect some accent pieces to add to the room over time, like a vintage lamp and fan - I’ve already been perusing on Etsy. Let me know in the comments if you have any suggestions!
